Stories from the survivors of Super Typhoon Yolanda
Gemma and Edgardo Almazan
Edgardo is a deputy policeman in Barangay 89, San Jose. He and his wife, Gemma, lost their parents, their baby, and their home to Yolanda. When we first met them, it was on the one year anniversary of the storm and they were still living in tents as temporary housing. Since then, they have welcomed a baby girl. Edgardo continues his work with the police and sells fish on the side to help pay for his children’s education. And with the help of Oxfam, they now have a permanent home too!
